Review of True Grit

I was eager to watch this movie because I really enjoyed No country for old men. Watching the ads on television showed Jeff Bridge's great job as deputy marshal Rooster cogburn. I knew I was not going to be let down by his performance and I was not. He did a wonderful job bringing this character to life. The viewer will get involved in the story to the point that they feel they are there riding along with rooster and mattie, facing the things that they face. Also the character of Mattie ross was one that we don't see much in films. Sure we see strong young women stand up for themselves in movies but Mattie brings it to another level as you get a real sense of boldness and strength from her but there is also a vulnerability about her that cannot be escaped. Matt Damon's character Texas Ranger LaBoeuf was quite impressive. I personally had doubt's about Damon's involvement in this film. But he did a good job of playing his character. Now on one note I would say that some of the dialogue did have me space out and lost from time to time, but it's the type of thing where you can easily be brought right back into the conversation while dwelling on something else that was said. The re-watch value of this film is quite high. Since I've seen the movie I have wanted to watch it again. The setting and the characters, as well as the journey they set off on is something I look forward to revisiting. Like No country for old men, the film's ending is kind of a "Ummmm Okay" situation, but it's everything that led to the ending that matters most with this film. If you're the type of viewer that appreciates dialogue, and have not seen this movie I recommend it. But for the viewers that are not too high on dialogue and character this film might drag for you.
