Notes:
*I watched the short before this and it was okay so I was curious how they would do with a feature length.
*The trailer looked like fun as I have a guilty pleasure for the movies Darkness Falls as well as Vanishing on 7th Street which both deal with this sort of theme.
*Eric Heisserer has actually done a few movies almost all are quite good with the exception of the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
*It has a surprising cast of pretty decent actors.
Pros:
*Maria Bello and Teresa Palmer
*They got a kid who can actually act
*They used the main actress from the short in a role
*It is loads better than the short it is based from
*The practical effects were great
*There were some great gimmicks strewn about
*An ending that is quite excellent. It kind of reminded me of A Good Neighbor with James Caan though not a bad thing.
*For the most part the characters are actually not all that dumb
*For PG-13 I was surprised by how entertaining it was
Cons:
*I do still wish it could have been rated R
*Even though the characters are the typical dumb type they still manage to make a few super dumb decisions, but hey what good is it to have super smart characters I guess
*Tries to rely on jump scares a few times
Verdict:
It's a great PG-13 horror. The actors do great and you will like the characters. It is way better than the original and wraps it up quite nicely. I would say to check it out. Supposedly there is going to be a sequel. Not sure how to feel about that though I will obviously check it out either way.
