Albert Nobbs review

An average movie

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this ย movie but, since I always had a weak spot for Glenn Close, I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, I can't remember the last time I saw her playing the lead so it was really neat to see this fine actress finally at the center of this story, just like in a good old days. On top of that, she really rocked that performance and earned a well deserved Academy Award nomination in the process. Unfortunately, it's just too bad the movie itself was not really good, I'm afraid. Indeed, even though the concept had potential, it seemed that they actually struggled to develop a decent story around it. The main issue I had, I guess, was that even though you feel bad for Albert Nobbs, this character was just so oblivious about what happened around him/her, as a result, it was still rather difficult to really care about what happened to him/her. I mean, the whole love triangle with Mia Wasikowska and Aaron Taylor-Johnson was just so doomed and pathetic but their own plan of trying to get some money from this guy was not much better either. Eventually, the fact that all the characters were rather unlikeable certainly didn't help either. To conclude, even though it didn't really work, in spite of its flaws and thanks to Glenn Close's performance, I still think it is worth a look though.
