I was curious about this one after watching the trailer. The plot seemed interesting enough. I heard it's a heck of a weird one. I haven't heard of anything by the writer/director duo. There isn't even anyone familiar on-screen. I hope this turns out to be a good watch though despite no familiarity. Then again foreign horror has been the go to for thrills these days. Let's see what this has to offer.
I have to say this is so beautifully shot. It's one heck of a ride wondering what will happen next. The twist of the whole thing kind of sidestepped to the more important journey of the whole thing. There are small things that will make you uncomfortable and disturbed sporadically. I like the different route it goes with the genre too. The last third of the movie is where things get really intense. It's not too bloody or gory, but it's done in such a way that you are biting your nails until the last minute. It's all done very well.
For a relatively unknown cast especially for Americans everyone did a fantastic job. Susanne Wuest is gorgeous, but her talent exceeds that. I just love the whole idea they took with her character too. The boys who are newcomers to film did an exceptional job here. The interactions the family has with each other were very interesting and at times quite cringing. You don't know everything that is going on between them, but that makes it all the more intense.
It's an interesting concept that really makes you think about things. The cinematography is stunning. It's creepy without the need of blood or gore. The acting is quite good from everyone. The characters themselves are really interesting. From start to finish you just wonder where it will end up. For me this is the kind of horror that works without gore. I highly recommend checking it out.
