Review of Star Trek Beyond

I've been meaning to watch this. When it comes to seeing movies in theaters I sometimes go at the last minute like with this one. These new generation Star Trek films have been pretty great. I love the cast and the new additions are pretty cool as well. It's too bad it's not J.J. Abrams again though. It's going to be a bit sad knowing this is the last time we will see Anton Yelchin in the series. Justin Lin is most notable as the director of parts three to six of the Fast and Furious series. So take that as you will. Simon Pegg actually writes some of the script here. He typically does comedies so it should be interesting to see what he does with an action adventure. This is the first movie I've heard of from writers Doug Jung, Patrick McKay, and John D. Payne. Roberto Orci has been involved in this trilogy from the beginning. He is also known for scripting in several franchises including The Amazing Spider-Man, Transformers, Zorro, and Mission Impossible. I'm hopeful for this to be another good entry to the series.

This was another incredible entry to the Star Trek name. The action is almost non-stop. It's a lot more humorous than the previous in the trilogy. I think they managed to mix it nicely with the drama and action. It has a few cliche moments, but it's kind of expected. There are some interesting twists and turns. I liked some of things they incorporated here with music and links to the original series. The ending was as expected, but it was still good.

It was great seeing the characters we know once again. Everyone is still consistently funny or awesome. The new additions here were pretty great too. Idris Elba is always great as a villain and that's no different here. I don't know what's with women that are made to be aliens that I find attractive. I just happen to think Jaylah was pretty hot and well the character was pretty badass too. I am glad Chekov had a more vital role this time around. It's going to be interesting to see how they send off his character. I hope it will be something respectable and deserving. It's going to be sad not seeing him anymore though. I'm curious to see if the next film will be the last for some characters or this particular generation in general.

I liked this entry a lot. The connections to the original series were great. The characters were still awesome. The new characters were great. The story had a nice mixture of comedy, action, and drama. It can be a little cliche, but really it was a great watch. It should be interesting to see what happens now.
