Review of Midnight Special

I am surprised this is rated so average. I would have expected something much higher given the cast and crew. Plus the trailer looked absolutely incredible. Jeff Nichols is the mastermind who brought us Mud and the up coming Loving that I absolutely want to see. I don't know why I have taken so long to watch this. It's time now though.

That was so much different than I expected, but so well done. It's a beautiful film with special effects used quite well. I was never entirely sure what was about to happen. There was one scene where I reacted audibly. It's a slow burner for sure, but I'd say it really pays off in the end. The story is well put together and actually feels pretty original despite having familiar aspects. The ending was intriguing.

The characters were all rather likable and interesting. Everyone did a good job with their roles even Kirsten Dunst who typically bores me. I did think they should have done more with some characters though it's a minor gripe.

I thought this was quite a unique and different experience. It may not be everyone's cup of tea as it's not fast paced or has very much in ways of action. The performances and the atmosphere of the whole thing really make it worth while. Jeff Nichols is really making a presence in the film industry. If he keeps making unique films like this then he will continuously be one to look out for.
