Review of Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker

Alright so we are now at the end of the road for this series as I've already seen the remake. I hear mixed feelings about this one. Some say it's the best of the sequels others say it's terrible. I also hear that Mickey Rooney is a bit of a hypocrite as he hated the first of this series but stars here. Brian Yuzna who directed the previous installment returns as just a writer this time. Martin Kitrosser who helped write the third to fifth films in the Friday the 13th movie takes over here. The story here really reminds me of Halloween III: Season of the Witch meets The Nightmare Before Christmas. Anyways it's time to see if this really is one of the better entries or another waste of time.

Of course this was a bit silly. The actually managed a pretty decent twist which I should have seen coming, but it was very well down. That's pretty surprising considering this is a cheap sequel. The kills are different and amusing. There were some bits here and there that were kind of stupid. One thing in particular is that the kid still had the toy that killed his father for some reason. Anyways while the plot is silly it manages to be somewhat interesting.

The acting here is a little wishy washy. The characters themselves were likable though. I liked seeing Neith Hunter as Kim again. I'm not sure if her and Lonnie were the same as the ones from the previous film. It's highly likely though. As for Clint Howard it seems he is simply playing another guy named Ricky. Mickey Rooney doesn't take the role serious of course. Although he definitely proves at times to be much better than the rest.

It's definitely one of the better sequels. It's not amazing, but the nice twist actually helps it. It was cool to see some old faces. The new characters were interesting, but some of their acting could have used improvement. The kills were unique. Despite the sometimes crap acting, silly plot, and lame bits it managed to be watchable.
