I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since there was a nice cast involved, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, eventually, it turned out to be a decent watch but it never managed to really blow me away though. I mean, the whole thing definitely had some potential but it wasn't very well developed. The first issue was that there were just too many different layers to this story. In fact, each layer had some interesting elements but they didn't work very well together. Another issue is that even though it deals with writers and the writing process, I don't think this movie is actually for people who really read a lot. Basically, all the characters kept saying that it was a great book, even one of the best books ever written but, to be honest, I never had the feeling that it was so amazing. Sure, it sounded like a good story but not much more than that. That was another misguided point from this movie, how they tried to convince the viewers that it was indeed a great story because the Old Man actually lived the damned thing. A great book is above all because it is brilliantly written, the fact that it is autobiographical or not doesn't really matter at all. Anyway, in spite of these flaws, it was still not bad and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
