Review of Kickboxer: Vengeance

I originally thought this was a sequel to the original movie, but sadly it's just a remake. At least JCVD returned for it though. Dave Bautista looks like a way cooler Tong Po than the weird looking original one. This has a great collection of martial artists including the late Darren Shahlavi in his final role. John Stockwell also directed Gina Carano led In The Blood, horror movie Turistas, and Into the Blue which were all good fun. This is the only film by writer Dimitri Logothetis that I've heard of. It's also the only film for writer Jim McGrath. It definitely starts off quite different to the original film. In fact it seems like they took aspects of the first four films for this one. Okay there was a pretty awesome cameo. If you have watched the series I wonder if you will spot them. So I really don't like the main guy as Kurt too much. JCVD isn't a great actor by any means, but this new guy makes him seem Shakespearean. The acting is a bit bland, but the action is where it's at. I would go as far as saying the action is way better than the original. The story here is kind of weak though compared the original. Things are done a lot differently here which I respect. I would have been kind of annoyed had they kept the story basically the same. The scene before the rest of the credits was amusing. Despite the negatives I actually had more fun watching this version. I'm sure people will hate on it, but action wise I would say give it a shot.
