An average movie

I already saw this movie when it was released but, since it was a while back and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out again. I remembered it very well, there was a huge hype before this movie came out but it eventually got some really poor reviews. Eventually, at the time, I thought the reviews were rather harsh as it was actually a pretty cool movie, in my opinion. Well, Iโ€™m afraid it didnโ€™t grow old very well after all though. I mean, I still think it was some kind of rather messed-up version of the Avengers running on acids and the concept definitely had some potential. On top of that, the characters were all pretty neat, even if there were probably too many of them after all (seriously, it was pretty weird how Slipknot showed up for maybe 5 mins and got killed off almost right away). Eventually, the only real issue was that the story was not really strong and it was even more underwhelming when you watch again this movie 10 years later. Indeed, it was all too generic and predictable. By now, all these super-hero flicks have pretty much the same plot and in fact this concept of having an ancient being planning to destroy humankind had even been already done the very same year in 'X-Men: Apocalypse' (another movie I probably gave a rating too high when it was released). Also, the whole sequence about saving Viola Davis didnโ€™t work and should have been removed. In fact, David Ayer came back later on this movie and wish that the Joker was actually the bad guy in this movie which could have been intriguing. At least, they got the tone right and those bad guys remain pretty bad until the very end which was a relief. 5 years later, James Gunn would come up with a sequel which was better received but, to be honest, I donโ€™t think it was such an improvement though. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I still think it is a decent watch though and it is worth a look, at least if you like the genre.
