I’m actually planning to watch a whole bunch of movies from this franchise and I thought I might as well rewatch this 2nd installment as well. Indeed, I actually saw it ages ago and, to be honest, I didn’t remember it at all, except for the intro and the final shot of Jason bursting through the window. At least, it was actually better than I remembered. Indeed, even though the first installment doesn’t have a stellar reputation, I always had a weak spot for the damned thing, probably because I was pretty young when I saw it and it was my very first slasher. With this in mind, the first time I saw this sequel, I was having a bunch of my friends at my house and I wanted to do a small ‘Friday the 13th’ marathon so I rented again the first and also the second installment so we could watch them back-to-back. Eventually, I couldn’t believe how underwhelming this sequel was and it was, in my opinion, a huge step back from the previous movie. At the end of the day, it is still really idiotic that, somehow, Jason became the antagonist in this franchise as it completely contradicted what happened before. Indeed, if Jason was alive, why did his mother go on with a killing rampage in the previous movie then? At the time, I was so disappointed by this movie that my original interest in this franchise completely vanished and I would wait almost 30 years to finally explore again this franchise (which I might regret… We’ll see). Anyway, it was pretty cool to see this movie again after all these years and, eventually, I have to admit it was not so bad after all. Indeed, I think it was a good idea to kill off right away the survivor from the previous movie, this way, you had no idea who would survive at the end. Sure, the group of actors involved was not impressive (no Kevin Bacon this time) but they made a convincing group of young camp counselors. Concerning Jason, even though it didn’t make sense that he came back as the main antagonist, he was and is still an iconic bad guy so it was pretty cool to finally see him doing his thing, even if we still had to wait a bit longer to finally see him wear his famous hockey mask. Anyway, to conclude, it turned out to be a decent watch and I think it is worth a look but probably only if you really like the genre though.
