To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and maybe I should re-watch it at some point. I didn’t know this before but, apparently, this movie was a passion project of Peter Weir who especially made this movie for Gérard Depardieu with no other actor ever considered for the lead male role. In fact, they even pushed the production for a full year because Depardieu was not available and, in the meantime, Peter Weir directed ‘Dead Poets Society’ which turned out to be a one of his biggest critical and commercial successes (I wasn’t huge fan though). Eventually, it would be the first major motion picture theatrically released in English for Gérard Depardieu but he never really managed to have a major international career. Anyway, concerning the movie itself, it was a cute romantic-comedy but not much more, I’m afraid. I mean, Gérard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell were both fine here but the concept was rather thin. Above all, the whole thing was just too generic and predictable to become really remarkable. To conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent watch and I think it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
