An average movie

Since I had this movie for such a long time on DVD,  I thought  it was really time to watch the damned thing. Eventually, the first thing that amazes me about this movie are the high ratings it received on this website and on IMDb. I mean, seriously, even though I always had a weak spot for the genre of the biographical  tale of some famous artists, I thought this one was really weak, in fact, probably the weakest one I have ever seen. Where should I start? First of all, even though the characters mostly spoke English, they all delivered their dialogues in some various accents never consistent with the involved nationalities. Also, the fact that they would suddenly speak French or Italian for no real reason didn't help either. Concerning Andy Garcia, he did have the necessary good looks but he never managed to deliver the required intensity for such a tormented  character. However, he shouldn't be the only one to be blamed. Indeed, the directing was pretty weak, like the way they added Modigliani  as a kid to talk  to himself was a rather lame gimmick, the whole thing was either lifeless and too random anyway. At least, Elsa Zylberstein, who really looks like as if she came from a Modigliani painting,  was very well cast but that's  probably the only really positive thing I can say about this movie. To conclude, even though I have seen worse, I really didn’t like this movie and I don’t think it is worth a look.
