An average movie

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this flick but since Francis Ford  Coppola did some uncredited directing work on it, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it wasn't really good, I'm afraid. Basically, it was some kind of mix between 'Star Trek', 'Alien' with a little dash of '2001' but even though this mix actually had some potential, the end-result turned out to be really underwhelming. Indeed, even though the story was in fact pretty generic and simple, it was in fact rather messy and confusing, especially the first 30 minutes during which I barely could follow what was going on. For example, right at the beginning, all the characters were rapidly introduced but it was so rushed and it felt really awkward. The other thing that bothered me was that maybe half of the shots were some close-ups which was pretty annoying and uneffective. Unsurprisingly, I learned afterwards that the production was really chaotic as the movie was released 2 years after the shooting was done, involving 3 different directors. Coppola was one of them and tried to re-edit the whole thing at some point but it didn't help much, I'm afraid. And what was this about Robin Tunney showing up her boobs several times during the whole thing? I mean, there was one scene during which it actually made sense but it kept happening again and again and it was even weirder that Angela Bassett did her best to not show anything at all under similar circumstances. Anyway, when you start paying attention to such trivial details, then you should know you are watching a rather weak movie and I don’t think this one was really worth a look.
