An average movie

At some point, like many other acclaimed videoclip makers before him (such as David Fincher or Mark Romanek), Michel Gondry decided to move forward towards full length feature filming and this was his directing debut. To be honest, I wonder how I actually ended up watching this movie back then since I didn't know Gondry very well at the time and I guess I gave it a try because it was actually written by Charlie Kaufman, the guy who just wrote the very neat 'Being John Malkovich'  just a couple of years before. Well, eventually, I thought it was a decent watch, with a few nice ideas here and there, but the whole thing was just too messy and random to become really compelling, I'm afraid. A couple of years later, they (Gondry and Kaufman) would give it another try , resulting in the amazing 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' which remains one of the very best surreal romantic comedies ever made. To conclude, coming back to our main feature, in spite of its flaws, it was still a fun weird comedy and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Michel Gondry's work.
