I have noticed that this movie has a rather lame reputation but, I have to admit it, I have actually a weak spot for the damned thing. In fact, I even saw it in the movie theater when it was released but I should probably re-watch it at some point to make sure it was indeed any good. Anyway, the main reason I mostly enjoyed this flick was probably the circumstances during which I saw this movie. Indeed, basically, I went there with my best friend at the time (how I managed to convince him to watch such an obscure feature is beyond meโฆ) and we had smoked a sizable joint just before. As a result, already during the commercials before the actual movie, we already laughing our ass off so you might argue that we shouldnโt have been able to follow the damned thing but that would be actually incorrect. Indeed, after our usual hysteria finally settled down, we actually reached a more trance-like mood which was just perfect for this movie dealing with cults, gurus and the search for spirituality. Seriously, after all these years, I still donโt know if it really happened or not, but there was this massive psychedelic Hindu god on the screen and it was one of the most mesmerizing thing I have ever seen. Concerning the story itself, I thought it was quite intriguing with some strong performances by Kate Winslet and Harvey Keitel but, I have to admit it, at some point, it kinda of lost its focus. To conclude, I had some rather weird experience with this flick but I thought it was pretty good and I think it is actually worth a look. ย
