An average movie

Since it is a rather obscure feature, I had some rather low expectations but since I have a weak spot for Mickey Rourke and Christopher Walken, I thought I might as well check it out. On top of that, I had this movie on DVD for ages so it was really time to watch the damned thing. I learned afterwards it was in fact the first movie written by Rourke and, unsurprisingly, it was dealing with boxing, one of his big passions. Indeed, when he was young, he had been pretty good as an amateur and he would make a come-back 3 years after this movie (many believe that this choice would ruin his career as an actor and, at least, you can't argue that his face was pretty much destroyed afterwards). So, with this kind of experience, you would expect him to write a solid boxing story but it wasn't really the case, I'm afraid. Indeed, even though it was pretty obvious where Rourke was getting with this tale (it was in fact really similar to 'The Wrestler', one of his greatest critical hits), the way to get there was just way too convoluted and hardly entertaining. On top of that, even though Christopher Walken was awesome as usual, his character was rather poorly developed and I think he could have been removed entirely from this movie. Anyway, to conclude, it was pretty weak and I don't think it is really worth a look.
