I already saw this movie but, since it was a while back and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I wonder how I actually ended up watching this flick the first time around and, to be honest, it might be the kind of movie which really works only once. Anyway, if you watch it for the first time, you should try to know as little about it as possible, that’s how I saw it back then. Eventually, after all these years, I have to admit that it is actually a solid mix of neo-film noir with a serial killer thriller. There was also a fine cast involved (John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, John Hawkes, Alfred Molina, Clea DuVall, Rebecca De Mornay) and they were all pretty good. I also liked the fact that all the characters had some troubled past and/or some hidden secrets. Eventually, it was rather well made and quite entertaining to follow these characters but, to be honest, the first time around, I wasn’t really thrilled by the big twist at the end. Like the characters involved, I was wondering about what was going on in this mysterious hotel and I was wondering how the makers would tie this up but I wasn’t impressed. Sure, it was original, I'll give you that, but pretty much like any other thriller, the premise was just seriously far-fetched and, therefore, I had a rather hard time to really care about the whole thing. There was even a second twist completely at the end but, if you have ever seen a slasher flick, it shouldn’t be a real surprise to you. As a result, since I knew what was coming, it is a completely different experience when you rewatch it and I don’t think I will ever watch it a 3rd time. Anyway, to conclude, even though I wasn't completely blown away, I have to admit that it was still a decent watch though and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
