An average movie

Dick Maas is probably, after Paul Verhoeven, the most successful Dutch film director, at least, commercially speaking. So, when he made his come-back in the Netherlands in 2007 (after a failed attempt at an international career), there was quite some hype. Unfortunately, even though 'Moordwijven' had a very interesting concept, it turned out to be terribly underwhelming. Well, with this follow-up, the end-result was once again pretty disappointing. I mean, the concept of making an horror movie about Sinterklaas (some kind of Dutch version of Santa Claus) definitely had some potential and, obviously, it created quite a controversy before its release. Unfortunately, just like with 'Moordwijven', I was actually amazed about how poorly developed the whole thing was. Apparently, Maas spent most of his time and energy developing the special effects and gore elements but they still ended looking rather cheap and he apparently completely forgot to provide a decent story. Indeed, the whole thing was really short (just above 80 mins) but there were still a whole bunch of characters but none of them was actually entertaining or interesting to follow. Seriously, it has been a while since I ย have seen such a boring slasher flick. To conclude, it was yet another weak directing effort for Dick Maas and I don't think it is really worth a look.ย
