Review of Dead Set

I have been catching up on material written by Charlie Brooker and eventually got around to watching this short series

The premise was intriguing but ultimately never really utilised that well at all and quickly shifted to the standard modern day zombie thing, where the graphics are gory but its all quick cuts and the zombies are fast

For a comedy its surprisingly short on laughs and the best moments come when from the nasty producer and the dimwitted contestant Pippa

Sadly I think this was written on auto-pilot with lots of swearing and POV camcorder type stuff replacing a decent script, character building etc etc which at nearly 5 hours in length in total is criminal - no excuse for it

Despite some good moments - the horror stuff is by numbers and never really that effective as we have seen this stuff 1000s of times - the comedy is vulgar and only funny at times

Ultimately a nice idea but not fully realised

4/10 - but for one new angle on zombies watch the film Pontypool instead
