An average movie

I already saw this movie but, since it was ages ago and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I remember very well when this flick was released, in fact, I’m pretty sure I saw the damned thing in the movie theater. Back in those days, I must have been 9 or 10 years old and I thought the whole thing was quite hilarious. Sure, after all these years, the concept does sound really ridiculous but I can’t help thinking again about this movie filled with nostalgia. Still, even though the whole thing might sound totally stupid, it is actually fairly entertaining, even when you rewatch it more than 30 years later. Arnold Schwarzenegger, like any other major action stars like Sylvester Stallone, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel or even Jason Statham recently,  decided at some point to get involved in some comedies but, in the contrary to his colleagues, his attempts were actually pretty decent. This time, the basic idea was to get the Terminator teaching kindergarten kids and the end-result was surprisingly entertaining. Above all, Schwarzenegger was surprisingly really solid and I actually believed in his character. On the other hand, it’s too bad that all the kids involved were rather weak but they were not helped by the fact that they were all used as comical gimmicks instead of being provided an actual personality. Another issue was that the movie was too long as there was really no need to spend almost 2hrs on such a silly story. After all these years, the ending was also surprisingly grim and violent (seriously, did they really have to shoot down the bad guy in the freaking school?). After ‘Twins’, it was another hit for Ivan Reitman and Arnold Schwarzenegger and, a few years later, they would try their luck again with ‘Junior’ but it was a massive commercial and critical flop. Anyway, to conclude, even though it is definitely not a masterpiece, it is still a guilty pleasure of mine and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
