An average movie

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Viggo Mortensen, I thought I might as well check it out. On top of that, I had this dvd already for such a long time (already more than 4 years...), so I thought it was really time to watch it. Well, eventually,  even though this movie really had some potential and could have been really awesome,  I had actually a hard time to care about the damned thing. I mean, it looked really awesome and there was something quite mesmerizing about this time period which I didn’t really know very well but, unfortunately,  I thought it was actually rather poorly written. Indeed, it was just very long and slow and it didn’t move on really smoothly, in fact, it was even becoming rather obscure sometimes.  For example,  why did so many people wanted to get rid off of Alatriste? It was never clear to me. Furthermore,  they added 2 romantic subplots which were both rather underwhelming. At least,  Viggo Mortensen, who seemed  at first to be a rather odd choice to play a Spaniard, delivered a solid performance and the guy was really convincing. To conclude, even though it didn’t really convince me, I still think it was a decent watch and it is worth a look.
