An average movie

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this flick but since it has a pretty good reputation, I was quite eager to check it out. In my opinion, you won’t get a more archetypal ‘chick-flick’ and, to be honest, I didn’t think it was really a great movie in this genre. I mean, it was fairly decent and I did like all the fine actresses involved (Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker and Jessica Tandy). Indeed, they all gave some very good and nuanced performances but, unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make it a really good movie. I guess I'm a cold hearted bastard but it was just too sentimental for me. I was also annoyed by the fact that both women were obviously in love with each other but they just didn't dare going to the next level which was seriously disappointing (In the original book, those characters had a love relationship which was much more interesting in my opinion). On top of that, the whole plot was fairly pedestrian and predictable. To conclude, even though I wasn’t really impressed by the whole thing, the actresses involved were really good and I still think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
