The great, underrated American masterpiece that nobody's seen. Directed by the great, underrated American director Howard Hawks, this is the movie about a group of stoic pilots who fly through the dangerous Andes in rain or shine (though mostly rain and other disastrous forms of weather). Their world is interrupted by the arrival of Bonnie (the wonderful, wonderful Jean Arthur), a showgirl passing through on her way to New York. Though at first shocked at their way of life, she begins to understand their moral code, and tries to get close to the leader Geoff (Cary Grant). Sexual, professional and personal tensions arise, leading to a climatic plane crash. This is the celebrated "Who's Joe?" scene, where we see just how closed-off and stoic these fliers are after the death of one of their own (that would be Joe).
