'You're My Absolute Greatest Idol': Captain Smit Machchhar To PM Modi | Flydubai Mid-Air Terror

An Indian captain aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073 managed to avert a major disaster after opening the cockpit door while being attacked by his co-pilot, enabling passengers to intervene as the aircraft plunged thousands of feet with 174 passengers on board. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the attacker had undergone Islamist radicalisation and intended to crash the plane. The United Arab Emirates has officially termed the incident an act of terror. While undergoing medical treatment, the injured captain, Smit, spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a video call. Prime Minister Modi commended the pilot's bravery, presence of mind, and decisive action in saving lives despite suffering serious injuries. Captain Smit shared his account of the terrifying ordeal, describing how he realised the aircraft was descending rapidly and pushed through his wounds to reach the door so others could step in, expressing gratitude for the support and medical attention received.
