Despite being critically lampooned upon it's release, RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE was a big enough financial success that another sequel in the series was inevitable.
Released in 2007, the third entry in the series of movies decided to completely stray away from the games on which it is based, and go in a completely different direction by employing a post-apocalyptic setting; something the games never did (and still haven't)
as with it's two predecessors, despite being a box office success EXTINCTION was received with mostly negative reviews from critics and fans and fans alike. It is typically regarded as one of the worst in the series by fans in particular.
