When God spoke to Enoch, Noah, Moses, and others about covenants, He was inviting them to enter into a relationship of trust with Him. We call this covenant the new and everlasting covenant or the Abrahamic covenant. God's covenant with Abraham promised wonderful blessings, an inheritance of land, a large posterity, access to priesthood ordinances, and a name that would be honored for generations to come.
Being God's covenant people didn't mean they were better than others. It meant they had a duty to help others be better. We are children of the covenant. We make a covenant with God when we are baptized and when we partake of the sacrament, and we receive the fullness of the covenant with the sacred ordinances of the temple. All of this has at its center our Father in Heaven's love for us.
When I think of the covenant, I can often fall into that trap of thinking, where am I falling short? I then need to correct myself and remember that the whole purpose is to draw us closer to God. Our Father in Heaven sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to take upon Him all of our sins, faults, and failures, drawing us back and blessing us in every possible way.
I hope you'll go on enjoying your study, your reading, and your shared time together with those you love in this study. And I leave these thoughts with you with every encouragement.
In this video, youโll hear reflections on:
