(20 Feb 2017) SHRIMPS' HANNAH WEILAND: "I'D LOVE TO DRESS THE QUEEN"
Hannah Weiland is only 26-years-old, but she has high hopes for her career.
The founder of quirky British label Shrimps said that she'd like her dress her Majesty herself.
"I'd love to dress the Queen. That's why the regal. She's my inspiration," she said Monday (20 FEB. 2017) at a London Fashion Week presentation of her latest collection.
The designer is known for her animal-inspired, playful, faux fur creations, but this season it was all about artist Louise Bourgeois, tartan and pearls.
"She lived into her 90s, she was an amazing woman with this life experience. Her last photograph, the last photograph taken of her was wearing a black beanie in a white faux fur coat in a wheelchair and that's why we brought the beanie into the styling. We wanted this sort of chic, tough look and it was also inspired by Scotland, the moss greens, and then the canary yellow leopard. Leopard is like a classic for me and I just wanted to rework it in different colors and the royal portraits of Robert Peake, they're very regal, Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth I make-up, pearly, pearly, pearly princesses," she explained.
The collection utilizes familiar elements of Weiland's work - leather, PVC and faux fur jacquards - with nods to a more ready-to-wear look.
Oversized coats, and dresses with pearl characterize the line, while the shoe collaboration (with Danish design house Ganni) balances out the posh as tartan, frilly trainers, leopard faux fur sliders and girly pink faux fur trainers gave the collection a more homely, approachable vibe.
Dusty pinks, blacks, greys, and mossy greens dominated the collection, with faux fur handbags completing the look.
