65 years ago on November 17, 1958, Liberty Records released a single from one of their artists, Ross Bagdasarian Sr. in time for the holiday season. This song used the same sped up audio technique that Ross Sr. incorporated with his hit song "Witch Doctor", which Liberty released earlier that same year. This same technique was used an additional two times prior to the release of this song; with "The Bird On My Head" and "Little Brass Band". All four of these songs were released throughout 1958, which comes to show just how Ross Sr. was well aware of what made "Witch Doctor" such a hit to begin with, and incorporating that with other songs he wrote. Unlike "Witch Doctor", "The Bird On My Head" and "Little Brass Band", Ross Sr. decided that he should outright create a fictional novelty band to release his new song, which also incorporated the same audio speed manipulation techniques he used for those previous three songs I mentioned. What became of this, was the creation of the Chipmunks and their debut song, "The Chipmunk Song".

The song was a massive hit, and served as the beginning of a long lasting media franchise that would outlive Ross Sr. himself, and continues to entertain fans of all ages 65 years later. In response to today marking the 65th anniversary of the Chipmunks, I've made the decision to post a high quality CD rip of the original mono version of the Chipmunks' very first single as a way to celebrate the occasion. This high quality rip was sourced from an obscure officially licensed compilation CD of London Records' 1958 American releases.

I would like to thank Algorithmdancer for not only sending me this, but for giving me permission to post it onto the Ross Bagdasarian Archives YouTube channel. They're the same person who found "Apple Picker" and granted me permission to post that onto this channel, so kudos to them for also finding this.

Not much else to say, other than to wish the Chipmunks a very happy 65th anniversary. They're an important part of who I am, especially their creator; and to be honest, I don't know where I would be in life without them as they mean a whole lot to me. I love them.
