In the year 2032, Tokyo finds itself divided by the devastating aftermath of the Second Great Kanto earthquake. The United States, claiming to uphold peace and prevent anarchy, seizes control over Japan. Enter Megatokyo, a sprawling megacity plagued by all the familiar urban woes: homelessness, crime, decay, and prostitution. However, lurking in the shadows is a new menaceโ€”the Genom megacorporation. Genom constructs robots, intended to maintain control over the populace on behalf of corporations and the government. Unfortunately, these robots occasionally malfunction, posing a fresh danger. Amidst this dystopian setting, people still smoke and don the rebellious fashion of 80s rockers. While efficient solar panels adorn rooftops, the city remains shrouded in smog and waste. As the megacorporation forces people out of their homes, the government aims to replace the outdated apartments with towering high-rises, exacerbating the housing crisis. Our story introduces us to intriguing characters like Sylia, the owner of a lingerie boutique, and Priss, a part-time singer and mechanic. Amidst the destruction and chaos of the city, the narrative unfolds in a vibrant nightclub where Priss mesmerizes the crowd, delivering a poignant song encapsulating the world they inhabit.

This is the Story of the Night Sabers.

"There's a Hurricane Tonight" is the English version of the song "Konya wa Hurricane", the title song for the Bubblegum Crisis OAV series originally sung in Japanese by Kinuko Ohmori, the speaking and singing voice of Priss in the series. One of the best songs from the series' soundtrack that ran between 1987 and 1991 in 8 episodes, cut short as 13 originally were planned to come out.
In 1991 the rest of the story was released in 3 separate OAV's called "Bubblegum Crash".
Later in 1998 the complete story was remade into "Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040", however in a completely different style.
