Olympia 1 Teil - Fest der Voelker - English Title Olympia Part 1 - Festival of Nations (1938) (English Version) by controversial filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl was the first documentary film about the Olympic Games. The film was originally meant to serve as propaganda for Nazi Germany as it hosted the 1936 Summer Olympics. The genius of Leni Riefenstahl turned the film into a celebration of international sports and the beauty of athletic competition.

The filmmaking techniques employed by Riefenstahl were never before used and the most innovative in film history, not to mention that she was a female in a male dominated world. The problem is that this genius director was a “Nazi director” who’s earlier film, Triumph of the Will, was a delusional documentary tribute to Adolph Hitler. While Riefenstahl celebrated Hitler in Triumph, she gave Jesse Owens the same heroic treatment in Olympia.

NOTE:
While we abhor the political, social and military actions of Nazi Germany, we believe this film is an important piece of film history and should be preserved and seen.
