Translating the sub theme song "Man Jiang Hong" (滿江紅) from the Legend of the Condor Heroes I (1983) (射鵰英雄傳之鐵血丹心) into English.

The 1983 series was made by TVB based on the Legend of the Condor Heroes (射鵰英雄傳) novel by Jin Yong (金庸), who is also referred to as Louis Cha in English.

The 1983 TVB series is considered a classic and is still the most popular adaptation of the story as it features the memorable performance of Barbara Yung (翁美玲) as Huang Rong (黄蓉). She's still considered the best actress to have portrayed Huang Rong to this day. She gave such energy and enthusiasm to the role. She tragically died though in 1985 whilst still at the peak of her career. Then there's Felix Wong (黃日華) as Guo Jing (郭靖) and Michael Miu (苗僑偉) as Yang Kang (杨康). Of all the actors that have played Guo Jing, no one quite has the heroic feel and stature of Felix Wong. Also no one has quite had the charm of Michael Miu in the role of Yang Kang. These were timeless acting and performances. Sharon Yeung (楊盼盼) played Mu Nianci (穆念慈) and had good on screen chemistry with Michael Miu. Adaptations following the 1983 series didn't really have the chemistry that Barbara, Felix, Michael, and Sharon had. The featured many stars but there was also a notable performance by Patrick Tse (謝賢).

The novel, Legend of the Condor Heroes, is pretty popular in China and worldwide. It has been translated into many languages including English. For those interested, I highly recommend reading the fan adaptation of the novel in English is available at:

In relation to this song translation, I noticed that I stuffed up the title card by misspelling the word "Cantonese" and Roman Tam's name. YouTube is weird in that I cannot upload a replacement video as it generates a new web ID for every video uploaded. So oh well, those minor errors remain and apologies.

In relation to this song, "Man Jiang Hong" (滿江紅), it is a poem about the Song dynasty general Yue Fei (岳飛). The poem is said to depict how Yue Fei felt at a time in 1133 at the age of 30 during the Jin–Song Wars (宋金戰爭). In 1127, the Song emperors Qinzong (宋欽宗) and Huizong (宋徽宗) were captured by forces of the Jurchen-led Jin dynasty. This incident is referred to as the "Humiliation of Jingkang" (靖康事變), which is mentioned in the poem. However, as the poem also makes reference to the Helan Pass it is likely the poem was not written by Yue Fei himself and that it was written some time after his death. This is because Helan Pass didn't feature in the Jin-Song Wars. Either way its a very patriotic song and Roman Tam really did well with this song. I really enjoyed this song as a kid, and even now.

Please enjoy. I am happy to take wuxia song translation requests in the comments section.
