One of my favorite films, that opened the month I moved to Los Angeles. "Cross Creek" vividly displays the rural central Florida culture that I grew up in. My formation & childhood was 25 years later, but the spirit of the native Floridians was still very much alive.
All of the people in Cross Creek were similar to the people I grew up with, who formed my understanding of life.
Marjorie Rawlings was a contemporary and friend of Zora Neale Hurston who wrote 'Their Eyes Were Watching God."
"Early Florida" before WWII was a very special place, and Martin Ritt beautifully captured the energy of the place. This was his last film.
"Cross Creek" is a film worth seeing, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
