Since the show’s revival in 2005, writers have got into the habit of increasing the intergalactic significance of their characters to the point that every few weeks, we are introduced to the most important person of all time. Rose Tyler, Donna Noble, River Song, Clara Oswald and Ashildr are all victims of this. And with story arcs like the Hybrid and the Timeless Children, not even the Doctor is safe. In this video essay, I take a look at this phenomenon and why I find it so frustrating.
