Orson Welles: "Hollywood Destoyed Me."

After Citizen Kane, Welles directed The Magnificent Ambersons, only to see the studio re-edit the film, chop 43 minutes from the cut against his wishes, burn half the existing footage, and reshoot a happy ending. It was a betrayal from which he never recovered. Welles said, "They destroyed ‘Ambersons,’ and they destroyed me."
