Published in 1987 on the Commodore 64 by Thalamus. Known as Mindroll in North America.

Programmed by Stavros Fasoulas. His final release before being summoned by the Finnish Defence Forces!

I've never seen a C64 longplay so thought I'd give it a shot.....

Quedex essentially consists of 10 separate sub-games which must all be completed as quickly as possible. Time remaining is carried forward onto the next sub-game. There's only 1 life, so if time runs out then it's Hasta La Vista!

The 10 sub-games can be tackled in any order by pressing 0-9 on the keyboard. What's really innovative about this feature is that the difficulty level for each sub-game increases the longer it's left. For example, Level 1 is nice and short if tackled first.....but if left towards the end there are more squares to traverse, and more items to collect. All levels follow this pattern - some more subtle than others. A quite brilliant feature for its time, and certainly increases the replayability.

I decided to tackle Level 6 first because that struck me as the most difficult/confusing, followed by Level 2. I wouldn't fancy tackling them towards the end! Level 8 was pure hardcore - any minor dallying and you're screwed (don't attempt that last!).

There's also some cracking music from Matt Gray - especially the loading tune (not included here I'm afraid). It's possibly the first game that Matt worked on, but I could be wrong. I recently purchased his Reformation collection - check it out, you won't be disappointed ( files.c64audio.com/reformation.html).

Overall then, Quedex is an original, stylish game. Top drawer presentation, gorgeous graphics and super sound. Rock hard and potential frustration at times, but 2 thumbs up from me!

I've played the Amiga conversion - Mindroll - which, in my opinion, doesn't hold a candle to Quedex. Mindroll is comparatively easier and more forgiving, with a slower timer. Gameplay was reasonable, though I found the visuals somewhat confusing. The audio is definitely inferior!

Anyway, hope you enjoy this longplay!
