A romantic drama in the midst of genocide: back in 1939 the Polish village of Volhynia, today part of the Ukraine, was home to Poles, Ukrainians and Jews who socialised and intermarried without a second's thought. Ancient hostilities were never far from the surface however, and ultimately nationalist hatred comes the fore.
