created by Aaron Shure and Jonathan Mangum

A hilariously controversial adult ensemble comedy about a group of “open carry” gun activists and their leader: a charismatic young lady who knows everything about guns, but has a lot to learn about love. Created by Aaron Shure (Executive Prodcuer for NBC's "the Office") and Jonathan Mangum (actor/comedian "Whose Line is it, Anyway") starring Wayne Brady, Heather Anne Campbell, Peter Allen Vogt, Jim O'Heir, Anna Vocino, Chad Brannon, and Megan Sheehan as Carrie.

Born from a good natured debate between the show’s two creators, Open Carrie began as an exploration of the comedy surrounding gun activism, but it quickly became more than that. Aaron was firmly on the gun control side of the debate, but as the show and characters took on a life of their own, he learned a few things. “Everything these people want to get from their guns is legitimate,” he said. “Each character is looking for something different, but they all want something important and valuable — safety, heritage, honoring your parents, self-expression, belonging, release from the threat of oppression. I just don’t think a high cap mag is the right way to get those things,” he added.

Jonathan, who approached the issue from the Libertarian side was more interested in power remaining in the hands of the individual rather than the government, but he wanted to mine the comedy that comes from the fact that high ideals often run aground on the rocks of individual failing. “Just because you’re on the right side of an issue, it doesn’t mean you can't sometimes be an idiot."

The series tries to stake out the middle ground on the political issues, skewering both Left and Right. Episode Two sees the arrival of a government operative (is he FBI? FEMA?) who clearly has no problem looking into your bedroom to keep you, “and your lovely, lovely wife” safe. But the political dimension of the series is merely the background for the fun and outlandish comedy. This group is united first by their love of the gun, but ultimately by their growing connection to each other.

Funding from Episode 1 will hopefully enable us to complete the filming of Episode 2 and beyond.
