The Nymph, a film by Damian Byrne Volmering is set in the enchanted forest and to the music of Claude Debussy. Performed by Anna Ilaya Ozolina and Martin Gallagan.
Follow the Nymph deep into an enchanted forest where nothing is what it seems...
This is my first stab at directing live action. I wrote it in 2012 when I heard Debussy's 'Clair De lune' for the first time. The Nymph represents how I felt and envisioned this powerful piece of music. The script was originally written as an animation but I warmed to the idea of live action after seeing the incredible Martin Galligan and Anna Ozolina dance in Cork. As an animator i create defining key frames/poses so their movements, stamina and gestures caught my attention. I initially wanted to build the set but after discovering that Blarney castle has fairy gardens, the Nymph really kicked into gear. I wanted mythical creatures, like a white wolf, snake and owl and the Nymph dancing on top of a waterfall. I wanted costumes that were part of the characters. A hunters costume that was worn but also adorned in fine fabrics, jewelry and skulls to illustrate his prowess as a hunter. Huge horns were to be key, showing virility... The Nymph would float through a darkened wood. However she is not if this world... The Nymph is mother nature, a protector of the forest, so when a hunter slays a white wolf, the hunter becomes the hunted...
