Drama set in the forests of the Ardennes. Pom is a young foal whose mother Mirabelle is a workhorse for a group of lumberjacks. She works hard and suffers brutal treatment. One day she retaliates and attacks one of the men. The foreman decides to sell Mirabelle and she is separated from Pom. Julien, a kind old groom, looks after a distraught Pom. Meanwhile, Mirabelle escapes and sets out to look for her foal.
