A journey inwards is so often a journey out, as our second cover star, Japanese actress and model Kiko Mizuhara discovers when we presented her with a bowl of tonkotsu ramen on a rainy Tokyo day. In Strange Desire, not only is the dish’s silky broth the perfect Autumnal comfort food; slurping the noodles from the bowl is a ritual that transports her to other worlds.

Taking inspiration from the cult 1985 film Tampopo, Strange Desire is a synesthetic journey to the most surreal corners of the style icon’s psyche. A collaboration between the Catalan director Albert Moya and i-D and Amuse’s Erika Kurihara, Strange Desire takes place in one of the Japanese capital’s most seductive sanctuaries – a 17th century tea house set in the gardens of the Tokyo National Museum.

Dressed in pieces by Japan’s leading designers like Junya Watanabe and Mihara Yasuhiro, and Amuse favourites Barbara Casasola and Charlotte Chesnais, follow Kiko into a place where senses collide to create a nirvana of food and fashion.
