Here is an excerpt from IL MARE ("The Sea"), the rarely seen debut film from director Giuseppe Patroni Griffi. It stars Umberto Orsini, Françoise Prévost and Dino Mele. The screenplay was written by Patroni Griffi, in collaboration with Alfio Valdarnini. Gianni Buffardi was the producer.
On the Italian island of Capri, during the wintry off-season, three people, a Man, a Woman, and a Boy come together. The Man and the Boy meet first, and are immediately drawn to each other. Then, before their relationship can develop, the Woman arrives. The three become close, and the Man sleeps with the Woman. But he still seems attracted to the Boy. Will something more develop?
Reportedly, IL MARE was greeted at the 1963 Venice Film Festival with "one of those sessions of prolonged booing, hissing, and cat-calls that, at festivals, generally herald a masterpiece." The movie was photographed by Ennio Guarnieri, and features music by Giovanni Fusco.
