Alex is 16, a misfit, a drop-out, a failure. She has been sent by her despairing adoptive mother to a farm in northern Germany. At first, Alex hates this remote place and the demanding job of looking after the horses. Then Kathy arrives at the farm to take a holiday, bringing her own, beautiful horse with her. A coming-of-age story with girls and horses, under the lowering skies of northernmost Germany, by the ocean and close to the Danish border.

Alex tem 16 anos, é uma outsider, e um falhanço. Desesperada, a mãe adoptiva envia-a para uma quinta no Norte da Alemanha. A princípio Alex odeia o sítio e o trabalho exigente de cuidar dos cavalos. Até que Kathy chega à quinta para tirar umas férias, trazendo com ela o seu belo cavalo. Uma história de descoberta adolescente com raparigas e cavalos, sob os céus baixos do extremo norte da Alemanha, ao largo do oceano e perto da fronteira com a Dinamarca.
