Robyn Cage’s expressive voice and impassioned live performances have captivated audiences from Boston’s Symphony Hall to the stages of NYC. A professional actress, trained at the Boston Conservatory and praised by The New York Times and Variety, Robyn turned to songwriting in 2009 and recorded her “Raining Sideways” EP with producer Alex Houton. In 2014 Robyn teamed up with two time Grammy-nominated producer Darryl Neudorf (Neko Case, Sarah McLachlan) to record “Burning Now”, then headed to L.A. to record with Grammy-nominated and Juno Award-winning producer Dan Burns (Carina Round, Early Winters). Robyn relocated from NYC to her mountain home in Park City- her music is a synthesis of New York's culture and Utah's desert wilderness.

The story
Two weeks ago, I went into the Utah desert with a film production team and a 119 year-old piano to shoot a music video for my song “Burning Now”. The day began with 100 degree heat and blinding sun, but then dark clouds gathered and gale force winds sent our props and lights flying and swept sand in our faces. Thunder, lightning and sideways rain threatened our film shoot, and I stood in the downpour looking like a drowned rat as makeup artist Amy DeVore tried to salvage her work. I was feeling completely defeated when videographer Bryce Johnson, with a tarp over his camera, said “Well, the rain’s not going to stop, so instead of calling it a night, let’s just go with it! What’s more dramatic than singing in the rain?!”.
I admit, I may have been overly ambitious when planning this shoot, but for good reason. "Burning Now" is one of the first songs I ever wrote, and it has stayed with me over the years. I finally recorded it with 2-time Grammy-Nominated Producer Darryl Neudorf (Neko Case, Sarah McLachlan).
So in the midnight hour, in the pouring rain, we set fire to a 119 year-piano. Part of me felt guilty about burning an instrument with such a long history, but the piano was in seriously bad shape, far beyond any hope of restoration. It was time for this piano to die, and we gave it a glorious death!
