THE IRON CLAW RE-RELEASE SERIAL TRAILER

Re-release theatrical trailer for the 15 chapter serial, THE IRON CLAW (1941), starring Charles Quigley, Walter Sande and Joyce Bryant. After releasing several superb serials in the late 1930s, Columbia chapterplays of the early 1940s were helmed by James Horne, a veteran director whose career dated back to the early days of silent pictures. Known best for his work at Hal Roach on the Laurel & Hardy and Our Gang shorts, Horne treated his serials as two reel shorts with emphasis on the comedic and interjecting broad humor where none existed. Not that the serials didn't have their moments, but several potentially outstanding serials -- TERRY & THE PIRATES, THE SPIDER'S WEB and CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT to name but a few -- are almost painful to watch thanks to Horne's direction.
