If you're looking for something incredibly unique and fun to do in the Philippines, hop on a quick 1 hour flight from Manila to the island of Palawan.
Not far from the city of Puerto Princesa there is something you will see almost no where else on Earth. A river flows underground through a cave that is ultimately 24km long. And you can tour it!
Located with the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, the underground river can be navigated up to 4km from the entrance of the cave, but the normal boat tour is around 45 minutes inside the cave. Inside the cave are stalactites and stalagmites, incredible rock formations, and even a 20 million year old Sirenia fossil embedded in the cave wall. Sirenians are the ancestors of the modern manatee, dugong, and other "sea cows". One of the most exciting things about the Underground River is that it was officially declared one of the "New 7 Wonders of Nature" in January 2012. The park is very protected and visitors are limited to preserve the cave. So make sure you plan ahead if you want to check it out!
