"But Lot was a victim! He was a righteous man with a righteous soul!" No! I have sat through too many sermons that attempt to paint Lot as a righteous man that I finally started skipping church whenever the subject was scheduled to come up.

The Accused was easily the most powerful and disturbing film of my adolescence. The atrocity captured on film haunted me, reshaping my psyche - giving me the first feelings of vengeance in my heart. I wanted someone to pay deeply for the unspeakable nightmare that was committed against Cheryl Araujo on that pinball machine in that bar in Massachusetts.

Does the seemingly glib use of this iconic symbol of gang rape from pop culture bother you? Good. It should! Does the very idea of a loving father knowingly casting his daughters to a crowd of wild men to suffer the same horrific fate as Jodie Foster's character bother you? Good. It should! "He rescued righteous Lot who was tortured by the sensual conduct of lawless men.ย Righteous Lot, what he saw and heard while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day. The Lord knows how to rescue the godly man from temptation." 2 Peter 27-8

Rescue a righteous man who offers his daughters to a violent crowd (after lying about one of their virginity)? Rescue a righteous man who gets drunk and sleeps with his daughters? Righteous? No! No! No! Call it what you want, I'd choose to defend my daughters to the death. If that makes me un-righteous, so be it. This is just one of those stories that gets obfuscated for a good reason - Lot was not a victim.
