From the 1934 Gaumont British film "Princess Charming". George Grossmith Jnr. was the son of the famous Savoyard, George Grossmith - creator of the comic roles in the Gilbert & Sullivan operas. He was born in London in 1874, and introduced the "masher" type roles in the early Edwardian musical comedies, produced by George Edwardes at the famous Gaiety Theatre in London. He also produced musicals, and later collaborated with Jerome Kern as a lyricist. French pianist, singer and actress Yyonne Arnaud was born in 1892. She made a name for herself in Britain firstly in musical comedy, and then in plays and films. She lived and died in Guildford, where the present theatre bears her name.
