Movie legend Donna Reed starred in her own TV sitcom "The Donna Reed Show" on the ABC television network for 8 seasons, from 1958 till 1966. This is a look at the opening credits for the comedy series and how they changed over the years.

The opening credits showed Reed answering a telephone ringing off the hook. She hands the receiver to husband Alex (Carl Betz) and watches the children (Shelley Fabares and Paul Petersen) rush off to school with lunches and schoolbooks in hand.

Alex leaves, forgetting to kiss Donna good-bye, but returns as she closes the door to give her a quick buss. She closes the door and smiles happily. A late series variant shows Donna departing after her husband, possibly for shopping, church or community matters.

"The Donna Reed Show" was created by William Roberts and developed by Reed and her husband, producer Tony Owen. It aired on the struggling ABC network and had a slow first season. After moving from Wednesdays to Thursdays the series flourished and ran for another 7 seasons for a total of 275 episodes.

Donna Reed won a Golden Globe in 1963 for her role as Donna Stone.

The first 4 seasons are currently available on DVD with the 5th season soon to follow. Beginning September 3, 2012 Me-TV network in the US will air reruns of the show every morning at 730am.
