"The Letter," Director Ezra Stone. Writers Phil Sharp, Hugh Wedlock, Howard Snyder, Jesse Goldstein. Joan mistakenly opens a mysterious letter from Toledo meant for her adversarial neighbors, Kerwin and Janet Tobin (Dan Tobin and Sheila Bromley). Just when she gets to the juicy part, Brad sees the envelope and tells Joan to stop reading or incur a Federal offense. Joan knows that Janet won't believe that she opened the letter by accident, so she concocts a plan to send it to her aunt Nellie in Toledo for re-mailing. All goes south when Joan goes to the post office to retrieve the letter. Mayhem ensues as she encounters a snooty supervisor, played by Frank Nelson, an "I Love Lucy" alumnus, famous for tersely barking "MRS. Ri-CAH-do!" For anyone who thought Joan was slowing down toward the end of the third season, give a look to this. The Post Office is a playground for her no-holds-barred physical antics. A grade "A" episode.
